“Ox is incoming with H&H,” Tiger said into her phone. “He will give you the details, but Verity is on the board. They have a tracker on Strong.”

“On Strong?” Sebastian said. “Not Tristan?”

“They’re tracking Strong,” she said. “You’ll need to call SuNaTran. I don’t think they’re leaving the same way they got here.”

“Arrangements have been made,” Sebastian answered. “That vehicle creates a…particular area of effect. It can’t be left on the streets untended.”

“Not if you want people to walk around this neighborhood without running for their lives in fear,” she said, giving me a look. “What was Cecil thinking with the runes on that thing?”

“It’s one of his pet projects, I assume,” Sebastian answered. “Are you sure about the tracker?”

“Absolutely,” she said. “They’re following Strong. Tristan is too hard to pinpoint Strong may as well be walking around with a neon arrow pointing at his head. He’s easier for them.”

“It’s to be expected,” Sebastian said after a moment. “Even Ox’s masking skill would be challenged by his particular energy signature. Tell me of H&H.”

“I convinced them to stand down from the completion of their mission.”

“Which was?”

“Delivery of Tristan and Strong to Verity—for a fee, of course.”

“Are they both still alive?”

“Yes. I did say I convinced them,” Tiger said. “They are both alive.”

“Good. You have been known to convince adversaries into the afterlife,” Sebastian said. “I was just making certain that reparations were not needed. Am I to assume we are covering the delivery fee?”

“Yes,” Tiger said. “Verity paid half on inception, half on delivery.”

“We’ll have to cover the entire thing to ensure Verity takes no further action against them,” he said. “Even with the funds returned, H&H will need to go on an extended hiatus until this situation is resolved.”

“I told them they could resolve that with you,” Tiger said. “I hear the Aleutian Islands are excellent this time of year.”

“The Aleutians? Your heart gives cold a new definition,” he said. “I’ll find a suitable location that’s off radar.”

“This is why you’re the nice one,” she said. “I’ll make sure Tristan and Strong get to the portal and then head back.”

“See that you do,” Sebastian said. “Time is of the essence; the Keepers will soon know of your presence. By the time that happens, you need to be off-site.”

“You need to find out who hired H&H and who this tracker is,” she said. “Someone inside Verity really dislikes these two.”

“It will be dealt with as soon as I return,” Sebastian said. “In the meantime, Rabbit will be tasked with locating and neutralizing the tracker on Strong.”

“Good,” she said. “I don’t appreciate being followed.”

“Understood. We’ll converse when I return. Oh, one more thing—is Tristan within earshot?”

“I am,” Monty said.

“Once you use the minor rune to open the door, you will alert the Keeper and his people,” Sebastian said. “You must enter the portal immediately.”

“I had no intention of waiting for them to arrive,” Monty said, picking up on something in Sebastian’s voice. “What’s wrong? This warning is unlike you.”

“I hate relying on rumors, but it’s all we have at the moment,” Sebastian admitted.
